Almost every autumn weekend from Easter to Anzac Day has something on it
Source: NSW Government
If you're planning a move for autumn 2027, there is only one quiet weekend between Easter and Anzac Day: 10 and 11 April, when school breaks up for the holidays. Our count runs from Good Friday on 26 March to the Anzac Day additional holiday on Monday 26 April. That is 32 days, inclusive, and it holds five weekends:
- 27 to 28 March: Easter. Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are all NSW public holidays.
- 3 to 4 April: clocks go back an hour at 3am on the Sunday, when daylight saving ends.
- 10 to 11 April: the first weekend after Term 1 finishes on Friday 9 April for the Eastern division.
- 17 to 18 April: the middle of the autumn school holidays, Monday 12 to Friday 23 April.
- 24 to 25 April: Anzac Day falls on Sunday 25 April, with an additional public holiday on Monday 26 April. Students go back for Term 2 on Thursday 29 April, after two staff development days on 27 and 28 April.
Across those 32 days, our count comes to six public holidays, one clock change and ten weekdays of school holidays. The clock change lands six days after Easter Monday and eight days before the school holidays begin.
At Balmoral Removals, our advice is simple. Choose your weekend now, know what else is happening on it, and put every time that matters in writing.
When does daylight saving end in NSW in 2027?

Sunday 4 April 2027
A moving day after the change
Source: NSW Government
Daylight saving 2027 ends Sunday 4 April at 3am Eastern Daylight Time, when clocks move back 1 hour to 2am, giving more daylight in the morning. It is the reverse of the spring change, when clocks went forward at 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026.
So a Sunday 4 April move, or a Saturday-night handover that runs into Sunday, has to allow for the clocks going back.
Here is what that means on a moving day:
- The early start is easier. A 7am start on Sunday 4 April is 8am by Saturday's clock, so your body has had an extra hour.
- Unreset clocks will mislead you. A car clock that hasn't been changed reads an hour ahead. NSW's tip is to set your watch and household clocks that don't update automatically to the new time before you go to bed. Add the oven and the car to that list. Most modern devices, including phones, adjust automatically.
- Plan the day to finish earlier. The extra light arrives at the morning end of the day and goes from the evening end. Schedule the last load and the unload for earlier in the day, rather than counting on the evening light you had in March.
Moving to or from Queensland, WA or the NT?

NSW, Victoria, SA, Tasmania and the ACT observe daylight saving. Queensland, WA and the NT don't. Anyone moving between those groups should allow for the time difference in arrival and key-handover times.
NSW changes its clocks that weekend and those places don't, so the gap between Sydney time and theirs is not the same either side of 4 April. Write the handover time in the other end's local time, and confirm it with the agent there.
What should your removal contract say for a move on a busy autumn weekend?
Your contract and the changeover weekend
Source: NSW Fair Trading; NSW Government
Under Australian Consumer Law, services must be provided in a reasonable time when no time is set. What counts as reasonable depends on factors such as busy periods and public holidays, and this stretch of autumn has both. That is why an agreed start window and a finish expectation belong in writing, not just in a phone call.
NSW Fair Trading says a contract should contain pick-up and delivery addresses, dates and times, how payment is made, and any extra costs for storage in the event of delays.
Add two things of your own for the changeover weekend:
- the clock reset the night before
- a key-handover time confirmed with the agent or landlord
Clearing out before you move: Mosman's council clean-up limits

If you're decluttering before an autumn move, Mosman's free household clean-up comes twice a year on set dates for your area, so check yours before you plan around it. If your date doesn't fit, you can book a prepaid extra collection. Both come with limits:
- Volume: a maximum of 5 m³ per collection.
- Extra collections: prepaid extra collections need 3 working days' notice and are limited to 4 per year per property.
- Timing: items go out only the night before.
- What's refused: clean-up doesn't take e-waste, building waste, hazardous waste, items over 30 kg, or items with any side over 1.5 m.
Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays. If you're booking an extra collection around Easter, allow for them when you count the three working days.
The night-before rule matters if you'll already be gone. If you've handed over the keys, the pile can't go out on the right evening. Our walk-up apartment checklist and downsizing plan cover the wider sort-out.
Where will helpers and the truck park in Mosman?
In Residential Parking Scheme areas, Mosman issues visitor parking permits: up to 40 a year, the first 10 free, then $5.50 each (checked November 2026). Each permit is valid for 24 hours, and the permit year runs 1 November to 31 October. An autumn 2027 move falls in the year that began on 1 November 2026, when new Resident Parking Scheme prices started. Use a permit for a friend's car or a helper's ute.
Where the truck itself can stand is a separate question:
- For steep streets, see where the truck stands on a steep street.
- For beachfront addresses, see the Esplanade kerb window.
- If you're leaving a building with a strata car park, see what to ask the strata manager before you book.
Are your belongings covered in transit?
Removalists aren't required by law to insure your property in transit, and Fair Trading recommends getting your own cover. AFRA-accredited removalists have public liability insurance and can provide transit insurance.
Sort your cover before a holiday weekend, not on the morning. Our guide to checking a removalist's AFRA accreditation explains what the badge does and doesn't cover.
